DESCRIPTION OF THE CONCERT:

“Engi Vengi” is yet another musical proposal of the Great Choir of Young CHOREA. The group was established in 2011. Since then, it has accompanied the musical research of the CHOREA Theatre, collecting and arranging songs from all over the world. This time we are going to draw on the Balkan musical repertoire, with special guest musician Theodosii Spassov - a Bulgarian kaval player (traditional Bulgarian wooden flute) celebrated worldwide. During the concert, we are going to perform, among others, traditional Bulgarian songs from western Bulgaria and the Rhodope Mountains. The concert will not lack Macedonian accents. We are going to hear some polyphony and dissonance, songs which are flirtatious as well as wistful, and above all, a great richness of ornaments and uneven rhythms.

INFORMATION ABOUT THE ARTISTS:

The Great Choir of Young CHOREA is a musical and vocal band which was founded in the summer of 2011 by the CHOREA Theatre in Lodz. This is a group of music enthusiasts, who differ in age, experience, interests and backgrounds, but they share one great common passion for music and singing. The Choir has participated in many artistic projects organized by the CHOREA Theatre.

Theodosii Spassov is a worldwide celebrated Bulgarian kaval (wooden flute) player and is one of the pioneers to combine Bulgarian folklore with Jazz and World music. For over 30 years, Theodosii has toured all over Europe, Asia, the Middle East, Australia, Canada and USA. In 1994 he performed with Sofia Women's Radio Choir, which was awarded with a Grammy award for "Le Mystere Des Voix Bulgares". In April 1995, "Newsweek" magazine recognized Tim as one of the most talented Eastern-European musicians in its "Best of the East" article. At home in Bulgaria, Theodosii Spassov is a national figure and musical hero. Spassov was honored with the "Music Artist of the Year" award, also Golden Lyre Award for lifetime achievement, and most recently was named UNESCO artist of piece among Herbie Hancock, Gilberto Gil, Valery Gergiev and Celine Dion. He cooperated with Ennio Morricone and Trilok Gurtu.
