DESCRIPTION OF THE PERFORMANCE
Imagine looking at the sea: In front of you, there is no land, only the infinite blue shimmering under the sun. The horizon, that thin line where the sky meets the sea, marks the limit of human sight. The radar allows us to explore beyond, revealing what is hidden.
Vision is about discovering what is not immediately perceptible: an extraordinary image or scene, whether real or imagined. The radar allows us to go beyond the limits of our sight, to extend our gaze past that blue, beyond the horizon. Suddenly, a bright spot appears on the screen: it reveals distant obstacles and helps us detect faint or complex signals, providing us with a map to guide our path.
It is an opportunity to reflect on an often unpredictable context, helping us to chart meaningful paths, so we don’t get lost or remain stuck. It helps us design the present, imagining the future through a multitude of scenarios and a range of answers we can construct.
Radar is an essential tool to orient us in a complex world, guiding us between the visible and the invisible, between nature and culture, offering us security and direction. It is a symbol of continuous connection between what we know and what we have yet to discover.
“Radar” is a vertical dance performance that becomes an emotional radar, tracing meaningful routes through an unpredictable world. “To see” also means discovering what is not immediately perceptible. A vertigo of vision.
INFORMATION ABOUT THE ARTISTS
Il Posto - is the first company in Italy to specialise in site specific performances on vertical surfaces. Based in Venice, the partnership between choreographer Wanda Moretti and musician Marco Castelli formed in order to create vertical performances that combine dance, architecture and music, merging the dramaturgy of the shows to the places in which they are represented and thus inspiring new ideas, reflections and perspectives. They produce vertical dance on historic and contemporary buildings, indoors and outdoors, on bridges, towers, cranes, as well as in theaters, museums, and industrial settings. In addition to repertory performances, they create custom shows and design custom performances on demand for public and private events. Il Posto also conducts training for dance professionals and amateurs. Vertical dance is a body moving perpendicularly to the wall, establishing a relationship with space according to a new perspective. Architecture and landscape play a central role, marking and distinguishing each performance. The music is created specifically for each performance. It is customised accordingly for each location and performed live with the combination of saxophone and live electronics. The performances on building facades are “performance-discovery,” through sensory reading of architecture, poetic action and enhancement of a place with unique characteristics. Il Posto has performed all over the world, from the United States to Japan, from Doha to Russia, from Hong Kong to Paris, from Singapore to Brazil. The company has participated in major festivals and events on the international and national scene, such as: the Singapore Arts Festival, Bangkok International Dance Festival, Finland Kuopio Dance Festival, Dimitria Festival Thessaloniki, Lugar a Dança Lisbon, Silkeborg Performer House Denmark, Belfast FoolsFestival, Festival Des Arts Vivant Rabat, Uniteatro Festival Paranà Brazil, and in Italy: Festival dei Due Mondi Spoleto, Macerata Opera Festival, Roma Europa Festival, Mittelfest, Bolzano Danza, Oriente Occidente, Carnevale di Venezia and many others. Their shows can be staged anywhere, on any vertical surface - the city is their stage. Enhancing locations, telling stories, and communicating messages from a different perspective is what they do best. Their performances adapt to any architectural context and do not require the placement of nails or artificial holds, but rather a system of passing ropes that they manage directly, from the initial site inspection to the certified installation.
Wanda Moretti - choreographer, specialized her studies on dance on the systems of the proportion and harmony of space. In particular, her artistic work focuses on movement in relation to works of arts, as well as urban and natural architecture. Her research is mainly on the influence of structured space on human movement by means of a detailed analysis of perception and subjects, linked to twentieth century and contemporary art. She is the author of Vertical Dance Project, a research program, which began in 1990 and is based on the study of space in its social, cultural, and architectural forms. This has developed into a site specific performance. Parallel to her work as choreographer, she has also carried out research on the educational potential of dance in the social field, schools and museums.
Marco Castelli - is one of the most talented Italian sax players, with a brilliant and prolific career and a broad artistic activity. In his long career he has travelled without prejudice across many different musical languages, highlighting the qualities present in each form of expression and always pursuing a very personal sound, free of clichés but rich in emotions and atmospheres. Beside writing and performing jazz music, he's a conductor of orchestra and a composer for theatre and modern ballet, and, as a sound designer, he has creatively interacted with various media: poetry, video art, visual arts. During his career Marco has made numerous recordings, both in his own name and in collaboration with prestigious artists, taking his music nearly all over the world and participating in countless international festivals in about 30 countries.
