DESCRIPTION OF THE PERFORMANCE

This performance is an encounter with a dream. A dream of being a superhero, of traveling through time and space, of confronting one’s own limitations and an oppressive reality.

The titular “Comedians”, inspired by an excerpt from Stanisław Wyspiański’s “A Study of Hamlet”, embody authenticity, irony, and courage. They demonstrate how art can reveal the truth, lay bare reality, and serve as a mirror to human mechanisms of exclusion and division.

Young artists, who are individuals on the autism spectrum, immerse themselves in theatre as a safe space that provides room for both the necessary - and often socially unacceptable - elements of “madness”, as well as the opportunity to ask uncomfortable questions about the extent to which society allows one to be oneself and break away from existing norms and expectations. Using both their own texts and classics (an excerpt from “The Defense of Socrates”) on stage, they demonstrate that they have the courage to exist, create, and act outside the box. With all the consequences that entails.

INFORMATION ABOUT THE ARTISTS

Autism Team Foundation - was established in 2016. Since then, a team of volunteers and friends has been working tirelessly to improve the quality of life for people on the autism spectrum and their families. They carry out activities aimed at breaking down barriers and stereotypes, and they promote and implement social inclusion in its broadest sense. They fulfill their mission by supporting and reinforcing the importance of self-determination for people with pervasive developmental disorders on the autism spectrum and/or with disabilities - in the roles of self-advocates. They educate, raise public awareness, and work to improve the quality of life for people on the autism spectrum, those with other disabilities, and their parents and caregivers. Since 2020, under the watchful guidance of the Autism Team Foundation, Poland’s first Club of Conscious Youth on the autism spectrum (Klub Świadopmej Młodzieży - KŚM) has been in operation.
