DESCRIPTION OF THE PERFORMANCE

The main inspiration for the show “Nosferatu - a diary of the plague”, was the film “Nosferatu - A Symphony of Horror”, directed by Friedrich Wilhelm Murnau, for which Henrik Galeen wrote the screenplay. It was the first film adaptation inspired by Bram Stoker's novel “Dracula”.

In our interpretation of this theme, we wanted to highlight the phenomenon of plague. A mysterious disease affecting all Wisborg residents. From the moment Nosferatu appears in the town, many of its inhabitants have developed an ailment that makes them levitate between life and death. By day, they are drained of energy and apathetic, unable to act. At night, they come to life for a while, only to fall back into lethargy. In our performance we are not dealing with the essence of vampirism, but with contemporary societies living like zombies.

In the performance, monochrome shadow forms, taken directly from Murnau's film, using the technique of manual cinema - with the help of a hand-moved roll of foil: a “film tape” - we calmly and with a distance tell the story in our own way. We bring the characters and the storyline to life in order to consider whether we, the inhabitants of contemporary Wisborg, are alive, or are we simply still undead…?
